Those who signed up for Yes 4G might have heard of it, but many did not know how powerful Yes Life can be on top of the high speed mobile internet services from Yes 4G. The best thing is, it's available for FREE. - www.yes.my
You need a Yes ID to use with Yes Life. If you are already a Yes user, just login using your Yes ID. Else, just create a Yes ID online...
Why is it so special? Yes Life in a nutshell is :
Basic Mobile Phone (018) + MSN + Skype + Twitter for your PC/Notebook.
I have a Yes Buzz mobile phone, a Yes Huddle and a Go. The same ID allows me to have the same 018 number on multiple devices, sync all my contacts in one location, emails via Yes Mail and many more. So no more worrying about loosing my contacts or unable to make phone calls.
One classic example: I was at KLCC waiting for my wife to arrive in a bus. My android phone was out of power and that time I only have my work notebook and a Go (Yes 4G Dongle). So, I boot up my notebook, sign into Yes Life via Yes 4G, and got in touch with her.
2nd example: I was overseas and I needed to make a few phone calls. We all know how much expensive roaming call charges are right? So, I hook up to the hotel WiFi, using Yes Life I call Malaysia at local rate 9cents per minute :) Just like I never left the country. My contacts saw my incoming call as 018-xxxxxxx not some +301 which usually people treat it as spam calls.
So, Let me share with you how I use my Yes Life...
(1) The 018 number which is tied to my Yes ID account. Clicking on it brings me to yes.my portal page to check my account or reload.
(2) My profile area - profile picture, status messages. This is viewable by all friends on Yes via Yes Life, the Buzz phone, Yes Mail and other Yes services in future.
(3) Phone, SMS shortcut. These are the main functionality I used most in Yes Life.
(4) Groups. I can group all my friends into different categories. Expand and collapse them to keep the window clean.
(5) Contact list. It expands to show actionable items. (Phone, IM, SMS, Video Call, Profile)
These days, many of our friends have multiple contact numbers. If I click on Phone to call Joshua, it will drop down all the contactable numbers for me to choose... Convenient!
Another method is just to call any number you want.
Just click on the Phone icon (3)
Most of us usually we prefer to just punch in SMS compare to making phone calls as we can multi-task SMS with a few friends... Yes Life does it extremely easy. Multi SMS in tabs and typing on keyboard is way much faster than from any mobile phone.
Psst.. I can SMS friends from my long meetings (or college classrooms for some of you) looking busy without having to constantly check my phone :P Cool trick eh?
Another cool feature of Yes Life is Video Calling. This is just an example of me calling Edwin who is constantly having fun around the world when we are busy working in office... In future, Yes Life will support multi party video calling.
Note: Lower bandwidth WiFi might impact the video quality. Recommended to use on Yes 4G.
End of the day, I am really happy I can get this service with a local number finally here in Malaysia. Previously, the only alternative to this was Skype; but it does not have a local number nor a converged service like this... Skype ID is just for skype....
