Review: Honeycomb Android 3.0 on Acer A500

A quick review of Honeycomb (Android 3.0) on the new Acer A500 which is launching next month.

My first impression was : WOW, this UI is made for tablets! It is clean and large. Menu was on screen and the locations and labels are not very alien to Android users. However, it is a total different UI to Android 1.x or 2.x.

Read more about it after the jump. Lot of pictures, but pardon the quality; taken using my SGS phone camera.

Yes Life - freedom in mobility, finally!

Yes Life.
Those who signed up for Yes 4G might have heard of it, but many did not know how powerful Yes Life can be on top of the high speed mobile internet services from Yes 4G. The best thing is, it's available for FREE. - www.yes.my

You need a Yes ID to use with Yes Life. If you are already a Yes user, just login using your Yes ID. Else, just create a Yes ID online...

Why is it so special? Yes Life in a nutshell is :
Basic Mobile Phone (018) + MSN + Skype + Twitter for your PC/Notebook.

I have a Yes Buzz mobile phone, a Yes Huddle and a Go. The same ID allows me to have the same 018 number on multiple devices, sync all my contacts in one location, emails via Yes Mail and many more. So no more worrying about loosing my contacts or unable to make phone calls.

One classic example: I was at KLCC waiting for my wife to arrive in a bus. My android phone was out of power and that time I only have my work notebook and a Go (Yes 4G Dongle). So, I boot up my notebook, sign into Yes Life via Yes 4G, and got in touch with her.

2nd example: I was overseas and I needed to make a few phone calls. We all know how much expensive roaming call charges are right? So, I hook up to the hotel WiFi, using Yes Life I call Malaysia at local rate 9cents per minute :) Just like I never left the country. My contacts saw my incoming call as 018-xxxxxxx not some +301 which usually people treat it as spam calls.

So, Let me share with you how I use my Yes Life...

Galaxy S vs Nexus S

(This post was created in the LRT station as I was stuck here for 1 hour+ during rush hour)

After a brief review and some read up in websites, here are my summary. I call up the stronger points of the device.

How To : install custom firmware for Samsung Galaxy S

This post is a guide for basic PDA firmware flashing. Will post another one for advanced tweaking (md5,pit update) and making your Samsung Galaxy S fly...

Why flash it rather than using KIES for official update?
One thing I realized : Original firmware is not to my liking, lag and slow. I want my phone to be fast!

I have been doing this for a few friends and a few others via email. I think it will be more beneficial for me to post it up as a reference to all. (Some friends willing to travel 300km to meet me for this).

Kudos to Justin Tan (Photog and LancerGT brother) who train me about ODIN over MSN...

-------------------------------------------

Let's start with tools you need:

- Windows PC/Notebook (For Odin)
- Your SGS (Samsung Galaxy S) cable
- Odin 1.3 (and above) - This is your flashing tool
- A firmware of your choice (For this I use : Froyo 2.2.1 JPY)

33% thinner, 15% lighter, 9x the performance... with the same battery life of 10 hours!!! These were the point that caught my attention. I wasn't the fan of the first iPad (will explain more on this), however, after watching Steve Job launching the iPad2 (Youtube after the jump), I GOTTA HAVE ONE... (will explain too)

Samsung Series 9 - World's thinnest and lightest

Samsung will be launching the world's thinnest and lightest notebook on March 17th in Malaysia. Some of you may have read about it before. It's the 9 Series. This goes head to head with the Macbook Air. The price will be announced at launching but i believe it should be competitive with the macbook air.

Holding it for the first time the unit feels solid yet very light, it's made of Duralumin, typically found in advanced aircrafts and offers construction quality twice as durable as aluminum. The design is sleek with nice curves. The minute i got it i said i have to get one. Now, i'm primarily a MacOS user but i do have a windows desktop. So for those who want to look for windows macbook air equivalent this is it.

Yes Buzz / Zoom Launch

I was as the Yes launch for Buzz and Zoom their latest addition to the 4G devices.

Buzz is a 4G cloud phone that enables you to make phone calls, sms, chat just like any other phones, surf the web from the device itself, sync your contacts from the Yes cloud services (SUPER COOL) and even plug it in to your computer's USB port and use it as a 4G modem. More info from yes.my - http://www.yes.my/v2/say-yes/buzz-4g-cloud-phone.do
Zoom is a home gateway that allows multiple connections via wifi. It also has a LAN port for 1 wired connection and the nice part is, you can plug in your phone to the RJ11 phone port and you can receive and make calls from your 018 number :) More info from yes.my - http://www.yes.my/v2/say-yes/zoom-4g-gateway.do
